The sustainable innovation of PPG: a revolutionary paint spraying system
Sustainability is one of the most important themes in modern industry. At TSG Group, we are proud to have contributed to the development of the PPG SprayMaster, a revolutionary, portable paint spraying system specifically designed for exterior woodwork. In this blog, we want to delve deeper into this innovative project and the sustainable aspects we have integrated into its design and production.
Project Case: PPG SprayMaster
TSG Group developed the SprayMaster for PPG Industries, a portable paint spraying system for exterior woodwork. PPG, known for brands such as Sigma and Histor, is globally recognized for its paint and coating products. The SprayMaster is lightweight, easy to use with a backpack, and offers a smooth finish due to its low machine pressure and precision nozzle.
TSG Group was involved in the product development from the beginning, from idea sketches and 3D modeling to prototyping and production. We also handled the industrial design, photorealistic visualizations, and marketing animations, and produced the first series in our own workshop. Read the full project case description.
Sustainability: The Core of the SprayMaster
Modularity
One of the key sustainable features of the SprayMaster is its modularity. The harness of the paint spraying system is an existing component, reducing the need for new parts. The system is modular, using standard screws instead of a click system. This makes it easy to disassemble and repair. The design contains few custom parts, simplifying production and maintenance.
Upgrading and Recyclability
The SprayMaster is made of polypropylene, a highly recyclable plastic. We are continuously looking for alternative materials, such as bioplastics, to further enhance sustainability. This makes the system not only durable in use but also future-proof.
Maintenance-Friendly Design
In developing the SprayMaster, we applied design for maintenance and design for repair. The paint is contained in a sealed bottle, making it last longer than paint in a can or bucket. With just 200 ml of cleaner, the entire system can be cleaned, significantly less than the amount of water needed to clean brushes or rollers. The absence of glued and snap-fit connections ensures that parts can be easily replaced without the risk of damage.
Efficiency and Eco-Friendliness
The system sprays at low pressure, resulting in minimal overspray and a high percentage of paint that actually reaches the target surface. This means less waste and more efficient use of paint.
Sustainable Developments by TSG Group
The development of the PPG SprayMaster by TSG Group is a perfect example of how innovation and sustainability can go hand in hand. Through smart choices in material use, design, and production, we have created a paint spraying system that is not only efficient and user-friendly but also has minimal environmental impact. At TSG Group, we continue to strive for sustainable solutions that help our clients achieve their goals without compromising on quality or performance.
